Don’t underestimate the power of the SEND READ RECEIPTS option on your smart phone.
When someone sends you a text, there’s a tiny line of text under their last message.
This pops up when the person you’re texting has read your message. It keeps you honest. It keeps you humble. By keeping this switched ON, it projects a certain confidence and level of believability. When you hide behind a phone with the option turned OFF, what does that say about you?
“You’re not important enough to me at the moment.”
“You can wait.”
“Oh no, I don’t have an answer for that.”
When it’s OFF, it’s easy to say later, “Oh, sorry, I never got your message,” to avoid confrontation. Not wanting to admit when you’ve seen a message or that you’ve seen it at all throws up an instant red flag.
Stay above-board. If you don’t have an answer, say it. If you need more time to complete a task or develop a thoughtful response, say it.
These are valuable lessons not just for mobile media, but lessons that can enhance your real-life career and relationships.
