With an in-depth knowledge of percussion pedagogy and performance, Dr. Brandon Arvay ensures that all of his students receive a comprehensive, balanced, and productive experience, while learning to appreciate all facets of the art form.

What to Expect

Dr. Brandon Arvay has taught percussion lessons to students as young as age 8 to college graduate students. He provides strong cultural awareness, technical ability, and musical sensitivity in a nurturing and affirming environment for all percussionists. Please read Brandon’s bio for more information on his qualifications and teaching background.

Lessons are given at the Fine Arts building on the campus of the University of Kentucky or Centre College’s Norton Center for the Arts (Grant Hall, Rm. 113). Our weekly lessons last 30 mins or 1 hour (most beginners need 30 mins), depending on the level of the student. Students are accompanied by the instructor and, when necessary, one of the child’s caregivers (parent, grandparent, etc).

Group lessons

Group lessons are designed to allow multiple students to experience learning and performing together. This format includes special tuition rates depending on the number of students in each session–the more students, the better!

Skype lessons

Skype lessons are also available! Not able to make it to Lexington or Danville–no problem! Skype lessons cost the same and meet as long as in-person lessons–and they’re are just as fun and effective! Simply log into Skype on your smartphone or mobile device and start your lessons today! Lesson payments can be made via PayPal.

All lessons are student-driven

Working towards a recital? Want to improve your drumset chops for your next garage band gig? Interested in playing marimba full-time after college? Whatever your needs, Brandon is always prepared to teach any subject or instrument. Emphasis is placed on technique fundamentals, awareness of sound, reading music, and ear training.
